What is Photoblogging?
Photoblogging is a type of blog using images rather than text. Most blogs are done by text only; perhaps there will be some images, but usually not many. The images on a normal weblog are primarily used to illustrate the text. But with a photoblog this is changed. Here the images form the greatest part of the communication.
Of course, there will also be text on a photoblog, but it is minimal compared to the images. Usually it is a brief description of the image, a comment about it, or perhaps a description of the equipment used to take the image. This is especially so if the owner of the photoblog is a commercial photographer or a keen amateur.
A photoblog may have just one author or several, and works in the same way as a text weblog in that the images are arranged in chronological order, with older ones being accessible from an archive. This means that it needs to have a content management system as opposed to being built manually.
The content management system is software that allows multiple users, storage such as archives and many other features necessary for blogs where there is more than one user. An example of CMS software is that used by the popular Wickipedia, which allows multiple users to publish and edit comments, etc.
In the olden days we had to take a photo with our ordinary camera and then wait until the roll of film was used up before we could get it developed. We handed it in to the developer for processing, or often had to have it sent away and it would take a week or more to come back depending on where you lived.
It is so quick and easy these days to take a photo with your digital camera and upload it immediately to your website or blog. You don’t even have to have a digital camera; anyone with a mobile phone can do it without even being logged into a computer. This is called moblogging.
It’s no wonder that blogs and photoblogs have sprung up all over the Internet, as people are eager to show off their newest photos. Photos of the new baby can be up there for the family or the whole world to see just a few minutes after the birth. The younger generation take all this for granted, but those who remember how it used to be are left shaking their heads in wonder at the marvels of modern technology.
